Get SHiny.....Billiton Island

Billiton, more shining island as a tourist destination, partly due to the popularity of the novel and film "Rainbow Troops"(Laskar Pelangi in Indonesia) the public anesthetized and a record-breaking box office in Indonesia. I've visited four years ago, just as a novel by Andrea Hirata slid to the market. At that time, people still felt what it was in the Pacific Islands, where Java, what tribe who lived there, have a movie or not?

Belitung lies between Sumatra and Kalimantan, right next to Bangka Island. This island can be reached from Jakarta with a flight time of less than one hour. Ponds former tin mining is commonly called "pit" so clearly visible in the plane would land Hanandjoeddin HAs Airport, Tanjungpandan. Belitung developments could be released from the history of tin mining conducted since 1852 by the Dutch. We still can find Sino ethnic descent brought the first miners. Tin also attract other tribes in Indonesia to try his luck. Though formally committed PT.Timah mining has been stopped since 1991, blending conflict with Malays as the majority indigenous population continues to this day.

There are three main activities that can be done in the Pacific Islands: beach hopping, Historian film Laskar Pelangi, and island hopping. Starting from anywhere, the same pleasures.

Sharif, our guide from Levi's Tour of East Java mixed-Billiton, have been waiting at the airport. The journey from the airport to the hotel in downtown Tanjungpandan went smoothly. Even ran into another vehicle had only happened occasionally. Understandably, this area is classified as empty-area 140 square kilometers while the population of only about 300 thousand inhabitants. He was like Jakarta on the day of Lebaran, quiet.

Temple in Kampung Bali Teak Giri inhabited island migrants from DewataWaktu the most appropriate for beach hopping melakoni course evening before sunset. We went to the Tanjung Binga, about 20 kilometers north of Tanjungpandan. The shine of afternoon sunlight produce the romantic atmosphere of melancholy in a fishing village. A fisherman looks were getting ready to sail. His name is Pak Mardi. He was the original Betawi. "Since the age of eight years I joined my father who worked as a lighthouse keeper in the Pacific Islands," said the man who is now half a century old. Except in the west wind season, every day Pak Mardi and the fishermen of Tanjung Binga sail in search of small fish to make fish. If luck is good, one hundred pounds of fish could get overnight. Fishermen are here using the ship chart, namely timber ships have a 'wing' to spread the net. A marine police also shared his story with us. "Yesterday I just picked up the Chinese and Vietnamese fishermen who tried to steal the fish in our waters," he said proudly.

We then moved to the Cape Coast Kelayang. A simple house that has now become the object rickety favorite photos tourists. This residential latitude, one child in Laskar Pelangi. The atmosphere is very quiet, white sandy beaches of this seemed to be private property. The sand was smooth and soft on the feet. Granite rocks in the middle of the sea which is characteristic of Belitung appear here.

One to watch out for is the gnats, small animals like mosquitoes that make this beach their home so people rarely come. Its bite can leave a small bump on the arm and leg.

A boy jumped from his boat on the beach to greet me. His name Asep, fourth grade students. Black skin and swim goggles made of rubber flip-flops remind me of children on the front cover Indonesia Lonely Planet book. He showed a large dead fish Fugu is partly due to his missing fishermen used to bait fishing.

Temple in Kampung Bali Teak Giri inhabited island migrants from High DewataTanjung so our next destination. In Laskar Pelangi, the beach is a place to play Ikal and his friends. Granite rocks here are very large as to create caves which can be passed under the pile. I was reminded-Menhir Menhir is often carried on the film Asterix and Obelix.

We also visited self Sijuk, an old village in the north of the island which became the home of the transmigrants from Bali. Expanse of yellow reeds satisfy both sides of the road. "Kolong" lead Defunct and pepper plantations appear alternately. Besides tin, Belitung is also known as a producer of high quality pepper. Balinese migrants true here directed to pepper his profession as a farmer, but business is more wet tin makes a lot of them turned into miners.

There is also a temple which was built in 1818 and said to be the relics of Admiral Cheng Ho. Not seen how far the old mosque which was built in 1817. Although the new clock struck 18:00, the life had stopped in the village. Did not seem the activities of its inhabitants.

Balinese gate on both sides of the road became the only clue that we have arrived at Kampung Bali Teak Giri inhabited around 200 heads of families. When we enter in, we were like brought to the island resort. Stage houses changed so full Balinese-style house pretending to be decorated with small statues and the cloth bandages polet. Colorful flowers decorate the pages.

Former kaolin mine called 'under' and widely used as a location for pre-wedding photos

We are closing the day dinner in KRM.Pribumi [Jl.MT.Haryono No.21. T. 0719 21627]. Restaurants owned by Pak Haji who has been in operation since 1984 is the only place to enjoy the crab content, which is processed crab meat and eggs are placed in a small crab shell. Hassle-free eating and it is so delicious Valued USD 5000 per shell, these foods become one of the most sought-by in Belitung.
