Lanai Island

Lanai is a small island in the Hawaiian Islands that can be reached by plane about 30 minutes from Honolulu or Kahului (Maui). This Long island is only 18 miles (27 km) while the width is about 13 miles (21 km) with varying elevation from sea level to 3400 ft (1036 m).

Although small, Lanai has a beautiful shrub and "untouched" extended and surrounded by white sand beaches hidden (secluded). Away from the crowd / noise of the city, there is no stoplight, quiet and peaceful. In addition to Golf, Lanai offers "exciting adventures" both land and sea.

I heard that Lanai was once known asPineapple Island. Because for nearly 70 years of Lanai is the largest pineapple plantation in the world to reach the 18.000 acres owned and operated by Dole Food Co.. In the year 1986 decreased Industry Pineapple and finally closed and turned into a tourist attraction. A few years after it was built the 2 pieces Resorts with Golf Courses.

We arrived in Lanai City Airport about 10:00 o'clock in the morning, after picking up luggage, we walked to the Car Rental Co.. There were several other tourists who had queued in front of us. To explore this island, 4 WD vehicle is needed, because in addition to one-third (1 / 3) of paved roads here, the rest of "dirt road" is climbing and descending.

Soon we were in a Jeep and drove into "Munro Trail" which is not far from Lanai City, 11 km in length with a panoramic view of the majestic Pine Tree and the cool air that we feel when climbing at higher elevations from 1 .500 ft above sea level (asl).

Along this path we are enjoying beautiful scenery there in hot Maui Island. This trail took us to the top of Lanaihale mountain at 3368 ft above sea level so it can be seen sights 5 neighboring Islands of Maui, Molokai, Kahoolawe, Oahu and the Big Island.

We are very lucky at that moment, because it does not rain at all so no slippery road conditions and more easily traveled, but still be careful, because the state of roads in several places here, can be misleading. Travel to Munro Trail takes approximately 3 hours.

The visible landscape as we went "Shipwreck Beach" is very charming with background Molokai Island. Shipwreck Beach, white sand beaches stretching approximately 12 km, is a tempting place for a stroll along the beach, Sunbathing, picnic, but swimming is not recommended here.

Hulopoe Beach Park is an attractive place for Water Adventure such as swimming, diving, snorkeling, Spinner Dolphin watch. As for Land Adventure, P. Lanai is a quiet, away from traffic suitable for mountain biking, hiking, Horseback Riding and even target shooting.

Besides, we also stopped at Manele Bay, Manele Harbor and several places to enjoy the spectacular natural scenery.

The next morning after breakfast we headed to the Keahikawelo also known as the "Garden of the Gods" located about 11 kilometers north of Lanai City. Almost along the road to this place is overgrown with plants "Lantana" which about 1 m high, flower cluster and multicolored, yellow, pink, white, orange waving in the wind.

The plant in this garden is not as usual, but consists of rock. The rock contain odd shapes and various sizes innumerable, scattered mysteriously landed in the red area, in this lonely place akan2 create a mystic feeling.

There are also several places in the "Garden of the Gods" this is not rocky, but only a vast piece of land is bright red which has (weathered), changes color and shape caused by weather conditions such as rain, wind, solar, etc.. Over the years, where the 'desolate' this (no trees, animals, etc..), Looks lovely eyes, in contrast with the color of the sea and the sky is blue and the 'distant islands' on the horizon. Then we continued our journey and climbing and descending rocky to find a hidden beach, white sand beaches beautiful.

When the air temperature was 80 deg F with the trade wind blowing approximately 8-10 mi / hr, sunny, perfect for "Sunbathing". By wearing swimwear and a towel covered with large pieces 2, we lay on the soft sand and warm while looking towards often blue sea and enjoy the sound waves that broke the silence. Some distance away from this place there are also a pair of tourists sunbathing while reading a book.

This beach is clean, quiet and romantic, safe and no one interfere. The warm sunshine and gentle massage when her husband put sunscreen on your body relax and delicious. Once satisfied sunbathing, we enjoyed a picnic of chicken sandwiches can prop stomach was getting hungry.

Through the middle of the day we were back to the hotel and the opportunity to walk around the park is planted with a green tree and beautiful flowers, no waterfall, lake neatly ... very attract eyes.

Towards evening we went to the beach and a walk to wait and watch the Sunset.

We were hiking in the dense pine forest behind the Resort where we stayed before leaving the island. The morning was cool and clean air, we walked along the path while enjoying the natural beauty there, accompanied by the chirp of birds that almost never stops.

Lanai is also attractive to tourists honeymoon (Honeymooners), because the air is quiet and cool slightly.

Three days is enough for us to explore the romantic little island is. We were impressed with its natural beauty, including beaches, and forests mountain, etc.., And a peaceful atmosphere.

If you are looking for nightlife entertainment and excitement bright light, then Lanai is probably not the place for you. However, if you enjoy Tranquility, beautiful scenery, uncrowded beaches, majestic forrests and wide open spaces, then Lanai is definitely the place for you to consider.
